Pep Guardiola says he is proud to Manchester City manager and believes his players have been “awesome” this season en route to winning the Premier League title with five games to spare.

City’s victory at Tottenham on Saturday coupled with Manchester United’s defeat at home to West Brom earlier today means the Blues are champions with five games to spare.

And Guardiola, who also guided the Club to League Cup glory earlier in the season, is delighted with the way his players have applied themselves throughout the campaign.

“It’s incredible the way we played and I am so glad to be here and be part of this club,” he said after the 3-1 win over Spurs at Wembley.

“These guys are fantastic, awesome - they are incredible.

“This club is absolutely amazing in all terms.”

City are now 16 points clear of United, having scored 93 goals and losing just twice all season.

Our 18-consecutive victories between August and December set a new Premier League record and we have spent a total of 240 days at the summit of the league since the start of the season.

And by winning the title with five matches remaining, we have equalled the English top-flight record (Manchester United in 1907-08 and 2000-01, and Everton in 1984-85 all won the top-flight title with five games to spare).

Guardiola, who becomes the first Spanish manager to win the Premier League, has now won a remarkable 24 trophies in his nine-year management career.

Everyone at City would like to congratulate Pep, his staff and all the players on a magnificent achievement.
